Summer’s End, held on September 17, AS 51 (2016)
Being the court record of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael at Summer’s End, held on September 17, AS 51 (2016), in the Canton of Beau Fleuve as recorded by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant.
Their Excellencies thanked all who attended the event and invited those in attendance for whom the event was their first SCA experience. Those gentles were thanked for coming and offered the hospitality of Their Excellencies should they ever have a need.
Their Excellencies called before them THL Padraig O’Branduibh, autocrat of the event. His Excellency praised His Lordship’s skill and calm demeanor as autocrat and gave him leave to address the populace. THL Padraig thanked all those attending and said an event could not run smoothly without the help of others. He then named and thanked his staff.
Sir Bedawyr of Avaricym then asked for the chance to speak to the Populace. Sir Bedawyr thanked the Barony for welcoming him back after many years away. He then said that while he was unpacking his good, he found a store of old Ice Dragon Newsletters, dating back to A.S. 8, which he has donated to the Baronial Historian. But was one issue that he wanted people to know he had found. With the Celebration of Æthelmearc Day near, he showed a newsletter that published what it would mean if the Western Region of the Kingdom of the East were to become a Principality. That Region went on to become a Principality that then became the Kingdom of Æthelmearc.
Their Excellencies then called before them Mistress Brynn ni MacRose, the cook of the event. They thanked her for coming all the way from the Lands of Thescorre to create a feast for Their people. For her generosity of spirit and service, Their Excellencies awarded her a Hael Stone.
His Excellency then explained that it was Their wish to create a new award in the Barony, one that recognizes the works of those who do not call the Rhydderich Hael home, but yet provide service to the Barony nonetheless. They had asked the Populace of the Barony to design a badge for this new companionship, to be called the Golden Scale, and create a fictitious backstory about the award. THL Rhiannon Elandris of Glyndyfrdwy was called forward to read the story she wrote.
After the story was read, Their Excellencies said that they had seen someone travel from other territories to stand with the fencers of the Barony, to guard Her Excellency and was in all ways but geography a part of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Alexia Cavalieri was called forth and named the First Companion of the Golden Scale.
Lord Wulfgang Starke came forward and spoke of the Heavy Weapons Tournament that was held, despite the rain and need to relocate the list field. Duke Sven Gunnarsson was declared the winner and presented with a goblet as token of his achievements.
Alexia Cavalieri, marshal for the Fencing Tournament, announced that great honor and amazing fencing was seen on the fields but one did overcome all. Lord Padraig na Feosiean Va Chaileichaer was proclaimed winner. Scroll by Baroness Juliana Rosalia Dolce da Siena and THL Sophie Davenport. Alexia also awarded her personal token to Lady Logan Latta de Kent, who displayed great passion and joy on the field.
Their Excellencies then asked Lord Gawin Hawkseye to speak of the archery that took place earlier in the day. Lord Gawin said that despite the rain, 25 archers took the field and that Snoori was the overwhelming victor. Scroll by THL Eleanore Godwin.
Baron Caleb Reynolds then told of the skill on the Thrown Weapons field and thanked the Marshals that came out to help run the range. He then announced that Master Antonio de Luna had won the day. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds
An Arts and Sciences competition was held during the day and Minamoto Roku-I Sakuarako announced that the winner, who had displayed an impressive display of chainmail, wished to remain anonymous. Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.
Their Excellencies they said that there was on in the Barony who has shown great growth and skill on the Archery range. That he makes strings for his bows and arrows to use and shares his knowledge of the range with any who ask. Thus was Theodoric of York named a member of the Dragons Combatant in absentia.
Their Excellencies again thanked all who came to the event, regardless of the predicted weather and wished them safe travels when they headed to their home.
Court of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel was then closed.
