  • Kingdom A&S Faire 2018

    Kingdom Arts and Sciences Faire, held on June 23, AS 53 (2018)

    An account of the court of Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Arts and Sciences Fair on the 23 day of June in the 53rd year of the Society in the Canton of Beau Fleuve. Reported by THLady Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant with the assistance of Lady Siobhan Readnait.

    His Excellency thanked all those for coming out as he enjoys showcasing the gentler arts of the Society. Her Excellency also stated that AEthelmearc is like a Rose, where the fighters are the Thorns, but the Artisans are the Bloom – Beautiful!

    Their excellencies then wished to see the Pent Category winners to present them with their scrolls.

    Third Place in the Pentathlon was awarded to Lady Meabh ni Cleirigh. Scroll by Master Dagonell Collingwood.

    Lady Cristina inghean Ghriogair was awarded Second Place in the Pentathlon. Scroll by Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd.

    Both of these scrolls were taken to be delivered by THL Hrolf a Fjarfelli.

    THL Hrolf a Fjarfelli was the overall winner of the Ice Dragon Arts and Sciences Pentathlon. Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    Throughout the day, their Excellencies handed out Hael Stones to the following individuals in gratitude for their efforts at the event.

    Ice Dragon, held on April 14, AS 52 (2018) in Loving Memory of THL Wolfgang Starke

    Being the court report of their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael, held at the Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon on April 14, AS 52 (2018 CE) as reported by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant, with the assistance of THL Zosia Kowalewsak, Hael Stone Pursuivant, and Lady Siobhan Readnait.

    Their Excellencies thanked all those that attended the event and asked that they give a thought to the Barony and those that we had lost recently.

    Catalina was then called before them. Her Excellency spoke of how Catalina came to the Barony with great enthusiasm and has helped with Pennsic camp set up and eagerly taken to Siege Weaponry and Heavy Combat. The Order of the Dragons Concordium was then called forth to welcome the newest member. Scroll by Minamoto Kuamoto Roku-Sakurako

    Their Excellencies then asked that the Order of the Dragons Combatant come into court. His Excellency noticed the Order was smaller than he thought it should be. Lord Tadhg Mag Uidhir was then invited into court. His Excellency spoke of how Tadhg currently serves as Baronial Heavy Weapons Champion, is always one of the first in armor at practice and one of the last ones out of it and it was only right and fitting that he be added to this august order.     Mistress Juliana Rosalia Dolce da Siena was then asked to come before the court. His Excellency spoke of how sometimes there are those long standing members of the Barony that everyone thinks has been recognized for their skills and he was shocked to learn that Mistress Juliana was one such person. Her skills in scroll illumination and teaching and running the Baronial Scribal Guild were too important to go unrecognized. The Order of the Golden Bee was then called forth and asked to welcome her into their ranks. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.

    Not satisfied, Their Excellencies asked the Order to bide a moment and called before them Baroness Ekaterina Volkova. His Excellency once again commented that he had been surprised to learn that she had not been a member of the Order before this and said that this needed to be remedied immediately as he doubted that the majority of those attending court did not have a scroll from her on their walls.     Their Excellencies then called for the Marshals for the day’s Marshal activities. Mistress Arianna of Wynthrope, Youth Combat Marshal for the day, first thanked those marshals that assisted her with the tourney. Four youth fighters participated in a round robin style tournament. Fritz was declared the overall winner and was given first choice of duct tape as his prize. Mistress Arianna then said that two participants were voted the most chivalrous and asked that Adrian and Quint come forth and pick their prizes of duct tape.

    Don Behrend von Elmendorf, Fencing Marshal for the day, first thanks all who assisted him, most especially the Mistresses of the List and announced that 42 fencers participated in a bear pit style tournament. In the end, Don Jacob Martinson was announced the winner. He was presented with a large bar of chocolate and a scroll by Lady Curia Epicurius.

    Lord Chebe then spoke of the Heavy Weapons tournament for the day. He first asked that Mistress Ysabeau Tierclin assist him with recognizing the artist side of the tournament. She announced that the overall winner of the artistic portion was Master Kieran MacRae. His Highness Sven was declared to have drawn the best Nature Drawing. The Most Fun Drawing was produced by Lord Laegair. Sir Beatrix Krieger provided the Most Geometric Drawing. The best rendition of Trogdor was by Lord Cormac. And special consideration was given to baron Richard Larmer for his Best Period Winged-Inappropriate Drawing. Lord Chebe then announced that Duke Sir Maynard von dem Steine was the overall winner of the combat portion of the tournament. He was awarded a sword and mace with a scroll by Fearghus mac Eoin.

    Lady Ysabeau de Comport then came into court and thanked Lord Chebe for all his work stepping in as marshal and helping wherever needed and gave him a token for embodying the spirit of Master Giuseppe and THL Wolfgang.

    Their Excellencies then spoke of the amazing artistic showing that was displayed in the Arts and Sciences competition.

    THL Ian Campbell of Glen Mor was named Monarchs’ Choice for his entry of a Leather Pouch. Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.

    THL Elska a Fjarfelli was named Highnesses’ Choice for her entry of a Viking Apron. Scroll by THL Eleanore Godwin.

    The Baron and Baroness selected THL Ishiyama Gentarou and his Men’s Japanese Clothing as Their choice. Scroll by Caleb Reynolds.

    Baroness Ekaterina Volkova was then called into court. Her Excellency spoke of the long work that Ekaterina has done serving the Barony as Persuivant, but, word has come that her services are need elsewhere. Her Excellency Ekaterina was then released from her office with the blessings of the Barony. However, this left a position open. THL Zofia Kowalewska was called forth and invested with the regalia and title of Ice Dragon Persuivant.

    Court of Their Excellencies was then suspended while the final score results of the Pentathlon was tabulated.

    Later in the evening court was reopened and the following announcements were made:

    • Lady Thalia Papillon was selected as winner of the Special Prize category of the Arts and Sciences competition.
    • Mistress Elska a Fjarfelli was named winner of the 5:1.
    • Hanna was named Youth 2 winner for her Illuminated Scrolls.
    • Simon a Fjarfelli was named Youth 1 winner.
    • Third Place in the Pentathlon was awarded to Lady Meadbh ni Clerigh. Scroll by Master Dagonell Collingwood.
    • Lady Cristina inghean Ghriogair was awarded Second Place in the Pentathlon. Scroll by Lord Rhys Daffydd ap Penbras.

    It was then announced that THL Hrolf a Fjarfelli was the Overall winner of the Ice Dragon Arts and Sciences Pentathlon. Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    It was announced that individual category winners would be posted in the Pent room and all participants should report there to pick up their score sheets and prizes.

  • Summer’s End 2017

    Summer’s End, held on September 16, AS 52 (2017)

    Being the court record of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael at Summer’s End, held on September 16, AS 52 (2017), in the Canton of Beau Fleuve as recorded by THL Zofia Kowalewska, Deputy to the Ice Dragon Pursuivant.

    Their Excellencies called before them on the Field (Lord) Brother Brother Riobard o’Suilleabhain known as Bobby. For his years of working as event staff, autocrat, and in support of the Barony, Brother Bobby was inducted into the Order of the Venerable Order of the Ice Dragon and presented with an ancestral medallion from Mistress Jenna McPherson.     Court was suspended briefly to be moved back inside.

    Court was resumed Their Excellencies Welcomed all to the event. With it being the Hour in which Their Majesties Gareth and Juliana took the throne, the crowd cheered Vivat for our New Royals.

    Their Excellencies then called forth Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd to be awarded his Keystone which was read into Court at the Shoot in the Wildwood. Scroll by Dagonell.

    Court was again suspended.

    Their Excellencies thanked all who attended the event and invited those in attendance for whom the event was their first SCA experience. Those gentles were thanked for coming and offered the hospitality of Their Excellencies should they ever have a need. Additionally, for those of the populace who still needed to collect their Spark Pearls, they could do so today.

    Dagonell was then asked to come forward for his business with THL Eleanor Godwin. Having since retired as the White Horn Herald, he named THL Eleanor Godwin as the Golden Bee Herald for the Barony.

    Lady Simonetta d’ Alfassi was called forth to receive her scroll as Baronial Archery Champion. Scroll by Kate and THL Zofia Kowalewska.

    THL Maeve Ni Siurtain was called into court and asked to represent the Barony as Equestrian Champion. She agreed and took her place among the Champions. Scroll by Lady Curia.

    Their Excellencies called Chebe before them seeking one final Champion. For his courtesy and honor displayed on and off the field, he was named Chivalry Champion. Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska.

    THL Minamoto Roku-i Sakurako was called forth and named the Queen Anne Trophy recipient.

    Lady Thalia Papillon was called before Their Excellencies in recognition of her massive feat of having competed in the most Champion events. She Participated in 4 events – Fencing, Archery, Thrown, and Bardic. She was named this year’s Iron Man winner. Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.

    Baron Caleb Reynolds, autocrat of the event, then took a moment to Thank the Staff for the event. He also thanked the Tribe for their efforts in continuing to support the Kingdom.

    Sir Sextus Plenius Callidus came forward and spoke of the Heavy Weapons Tournament that was held. Duke Maynard von dem Stein was declared the winner. Scroll by Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd.

    Their Excellencies then asked THL Rendell to speak of the archery that took place earlier in the day. Theodoric of York was named the victor. Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska.

    Baron Caleb Reynolds then told of the skill on the Thrown Weapons field and thanked the Marshals that came out to help run the range. He then announced that Master Antonio de Luna had won the day. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.

    Thrown Weapons marshals, although not present did declare a winner for the day’s tournament. It was announced that Sir Aquila d’Athos had won the day who also was not in attendance. Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska.

    Don Behrend von Elmendorf was called before Their Excellencies to speak of the Fencing Tournament. He announced that Padraig na Feosoige au Chaeleichair (Padraig of Thescorre) was the victor. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.

    An Arts and Sciences competition was held during the day and THL Eleanor Godwin announced that the winner, Baron Rhiannon Elandris winner. Scroll by THL Eleanor Godwin. Clarissa was awarded second place for her embroidery.

    Baron Rhiannon Elandris was asked to return to Their Excellencies. For his ongoing work in the A&S community and participation in A&S contests, their Excellencies saw it fit to induct him into the Order of the Golden Bee. Scroll by Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd

    Their Excellencies called Baron Caleb Reynolds BACK into court, again, to thank him for his years of service. To honor him, he was inducted into the Order of the Tangled Rose. Scroll is a work in progress. Those members of the Order present were asked to remain standing.

    Their Excellencies then asked if the loved ones of Master Brandrick Slayrock would present themselves. In a token of thanks, the family presented their Excellencies with the Stone Children, Jamie and Cerci. Their Excellencies then spoke of the works and impact that Master Brandrick had made on the Barony. It was their wish to also induct him into the Order of the Tangled Rose.   • Pennsic War 2017

    The Pennsic War on August 10th, AS 52 (2017)

    Court Report of Their Excellencies Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael, held at The Pennsic War on August 10th, AS 52 (2017) as documented by Baron Magnus de Lyons, recording herald.

    Their Excellencies wished the populace a good Pennsic and thanked everyone for their efforts with setting up Baronial camp. Their Excellencies also mentioned the number of Hael people who volunteered at Pennsic and thanked these people for their efforts.

    Their Excellencies called before them Lord Gerardo Vicelli and award him a Hael Stone for his video and photography skills, including but not limited to his video of Their Excellencies Investiture.

    Their Excellencies asked the assembled populace to speak about what new activities they tried or participated in during Pennsic, and awarded these people pearls for Their Majesties Spark Challenge.

    Their Excellencies called before them Master Filippo de Sancto Martino, their Captain of siege. Their Excellencies asked Master Filippo if wished to continue as their Captain of Siege. He indicated he was ready to retire if there was a willing replacement. Their Excellencies called before them Lord Chebe and spoke of his hard work in growing the Rhydderich Hael siege community. Their Excellencies offered Lord Chebe the position of Baronial Captain of Siege and he accepted. Their Excellencies thanked Master Filippo for his service and released him.

    Their Excellencies had further business with Lord Chebe. Their Excellencies spoke of his extensive work in the Barony. Helping with Baronial projects, assisting at events, building siege equipment for people to use, and stepping up to assist with Pennsic Baronial camp in our time of need. Their Excellencies awarded Lord Chebe the Venerable Order of the Ice Dragon for his efforts.

    With no further business, court was then closed.

  • Cooks’ Collegium 2017

    Cooks Collegium on June 24, AS 52 (2017)

    Court Report of Their Excellencies Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael, held at Cooks Collegium on June 24, AS 52 (2017) as documented by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant, assisted by Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd.

    Their Excellencies welcomed all and thanked everyone for a wonderful day of food and learning.

    Their Excellencies, Penn and Lucia, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of Ramshaven in the Kingdom of Ealdormere presented gift tokens to their cousins and thanked them for hosting such an enjoyable event.

    Baroness Juliana Rosalia Dolce di Siena, autocrat of the event, offered her thanks to all who attended and said that no event can be run by just one person and thanked her staff and the teachers who came and taught this day.

    Their Excellencies called before them their Arts and Sciences Champion, THL Wolfgang Starke. They thanked him for his time serving the Barony and the Arts and released him from his duties. They then called before them THL Eleanore Godwin. They spoke of her lovely scribal work and asked that she represent the Barony for the next year as Arts and Sciences Champion.     THL Clarissa da Svizzera asked for time in court. She told the populace that a deaf family had moved to Æthelmearc and they had a deaf child as well. She was on a mission to teach the Kingdom the Sign Language word for “HOLD”, should they see the child approaching the list field. She then demonstrated the sign for all to learn and encouraged everyone to seek the family out and welcome them to the Kingdom.

    THL Eleanore Godwin then spoke of scrolls she had made for the Hael Hounds Baronial Archery unit and asked them to see her in the back of the hall after court to receive their scroll.

    Their Excellencies then asked all folks for whom this was their first event to please come forward. They thanked those that came forth and offered them welcome and presented them with a token and offered hospitality should they need at any event they are all at.

  • Ice Dragon 2017

    Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon

    Being the court record of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael at the Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon, held on April 8, AS 51 (2017), in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael as recorded by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant, assisted by THL Zosia Kowalewska, Hael Stone Pursuivant

    Their Excellencies thanked all who attended the event and invited those in attendance for whom the event was their first SCA experience. Those gentles were thanked for coming and offered a token of remembrance and invited them to please come to more events.

    Their Excellencies asked that Baron Richard Larmer come before them. They spoke that though he be from foreign lands, his support of the Barony is well known. He teaches fighters and encourages all at practice. For this they did name him to a Companion of the Golden Scale and presented him with a token of the order.

    Mistress Gillian Llwelyn of Ravenspur asked for a moment of time in court. When granted she then took Sarafina Kowalewska as her protégé, girding her with a yellow belt to mark the relationship.

    Their Excellencies then asked for Lady Siobhan Readnait to attend them. They spoke of her constant practice and participation within the archery community. For her dedication they did name her to the Order of the Dragons Combatant. Scroll by Master Dagonell Collingwood of Emerald Lake.

    Next Lady Simonetta d’Alfassi was called into court. The Hael Hounds have grown with her addition and skills on the archery field. Thus did Their Excellencies induct her into the Order of the Dragons Combatant. Illumination by Beth Huber, Calligraphy by Padraig O’Branduibh.

    Minamoto Roku-I Sakurako was then called before the court, where Their Excellencies spoke of how, since moving to the Barony she has become strong in the A&S community, the ranks of the fencers, guarding Her Excellency and so much more. For this she was named to the Dragons Concordium. Scroll by Baroness Rosemund von Glinde.

    Their Excellencies then asked that Mikus present himself before them. They then spoke of the work he does recording the events of the day at every event he goes through his photography. For this they presented him with a Hael Stone.

    Then Lord Meuric ap Gwillim and Wint liana verch Meuric were called. These two volunteered a good part of their day, with no notice, to assist with and serve the lunch. For this they were presented with Hael Stones.

    Lord Wolfgang Starke then approached the court. Before he could speak of the day’s events, His Excellency praised his hard work as now 4 time autocrat of such a large and complex event and how he was already slated to autocrat next year’s. His Excellency asked that all present take the time to thank Lord Wolfgang for his dedication. The autocrat then spoke of the events and thanked all for attending.

    His Excellency then talked of the Rattan Tournament that was held earlier and it was announced that THL Arne Ulrichsoon was the overall winner. Scroll by Mistress Gillian Llwelyn of Ravenspur.

    THL Robert l’Etourdi came forth to talk of the rapier tournaments. It was announced that Lord Durante de Caravaggio was the winner. He was presented with a scroll by Baron Caleb Reynonds and a gift of chocolate, which he then gave to Her Majesty as she was his inspiration for the day.

    Before he could leave the court, His Oriental Majesty, Ioannes of the East begged a moment to speak. He spoke of the fun and challenges he had in the fencing lists that day and that such fun would not have been possible without His Lordship. His Majesty then presented a token made by his own hand to His Lordship.

    Their Excellencies then spoke of the Arts and Sciences competition that was held and marveled over the variety and skill of the entries. They then called forth Lady Elska a Fjarfelli. They praised her Zoomorphic Pottery and named her the Baron and Baroness’ choice winner for the competition. Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    Their Highnesses, Timothy and Gabrielle, then announced that Lady Abigail Kelhog’s scroll had caught their eye and named her the Prince and Princess’ choice winner for the Competition. Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.

    Their Majesties, Marcus and Margerite then called Lady Lucieta di Cosimo to attend them. They spoke of her wonderful presentation on Apotropaic Burials and named her King’s and Queen’s choice winner. Scroll illuminated by Baron Caleb Reynolds, calligraphed by Euria Epicurius.

    However the court was not done with Lady Lucieta and Master Fridrikr Tommasson and Baroness Orianna Fridrikskona, Kingdom Ministers of the Arts and Sciences also were moved by her presentation and gave her a token as their Choice.

    Simon Fjarfell and Hanna of Hunters Home were then asked to join Their Excellencies. Both young gentles entered the competition. Simon entered a Viking handbag and Pampooties and Hanna entered a portrait of her dogs done in an Elizabethan style. For their works they were named the Youth winners of the competition in their respected age groups. Simon’s scroll by THL Zosia Kowalewska.     Their Excellencies then asked Lady Elska a Fjarfelli to return to their court. They spoke with her about her unending dedication to learning, the arts and sharing of knowledge and announced that she had achieved the scores to be named the Overall Winner of the Ice Dragon Arts and Sciences Pentathlon.     Their Excellencies again thanked all who came to the event, regardless of the predicted weather and wished them safe travels when they headed to their home.

    Court was then suspended while final category winners were established.

    After Kingdom Court, Their Excellencies’ Court was then resumed and the names of the Arts and Sciences competition category winners were announced. Winners were asked to report to the Pent room to receive their prizes.

    Court of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel was then closed.

  • Crown Tournament 2016

    Crown Tournament, held on October 1, AS 51 (2016)

    Being the court record of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael at Crown Tournament, held on October 1, AS 51 (2016), in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael as recorded by THLady Zofia Kowalewska, Dragon’s Tongue pursuivant

    Their Excellencies thanked all who attended the event.

    Their Excellencies called before them Baroness Ekaterina Volkova and Baroness Julianna Rosalia Dolce di Siena, autocrats of the event. Their Excellencies thanked the Autocrats for a wonderful event. The autocrats thanked all those attending and included that the event did indeed make money, there were no spiders and the weather cooperated during the tournament. They then named and thanked their staff.

    Layla Bint Mikhael and the Thescorre contingent then asked for the chance to speak to the Populace. As a new resident to the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael, she is acting as Ambassador from Thescorre on behalf of Baroness Sidera . Baroness Sadira sent a pouch containing items as a token of friendship and love. Their Excellencies welcomed Layla to the Barony and thank her for the gift and continued friendship with Thescorre.

    Their Excellencies summoned Merideth the Mask Maker. Her skill with leather has reached far into the history of the Hael and deemed be recognized. The Order of the Golden Bee was called into attendance to welcome their newest member. Scroll by THL Eleanore Godwin.

    Being the court record of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael at Summer’s End, held on September 17, AS 51 (2016), in the Canton of Beau Fleuve as recorded by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant.

    Their Excellencies thanked all who attended the event and invited those in attendance for whom the event was their first SCA experience. Those gentles were thanked for coming and offered the hospitality of Their Excellencies should they ever have a need.

    Their Excellencies called before them THL Padraig O’Branduibh, autocrat of the event. His Excellency praised His Lordship’s skill and calm demeanor as autocrat and gave him leave to address the populace. THL Padraig thanked all those attending and said an event could not run smoothly without the help of others. He then named and thanked his staff.

    Sir Bedawyr of Avaricym then asked for the chance to speak to the Populace. Sir Bedawyr thanked the Barony for welcoming him back after many years away. He then said that while he was unpacking his good, he found a store of old Ice Dragon Newsletters, dating back to A.S. 8, which he has donated to the Baronial Historian. But was one issue that he wanted people to know he had found. With the Celebration of Æthelmearc Day near, he showed a newsletter that published what it would mean if the Western Region of the Kingdom of the East were to become a Principality. That Region went on to become a Principality that then became the Kingdom of Æthelmearc.

    Their Excellencies then called before them Mistress Brynn ni MacRose, the cook of the event. They thanked her for coming all the way from the Lands of Thescorre to create a feast for Their people. For her generosity of spirit and service, Their Excellencies awarded her a Hael Stone.

    His Excellency then explained that it was Their wish to create a new award in the Barony, one that recognizes the works of those who do not call the Rhydderich Hael home, but yet provide service to the Barony nonetheless. They had asked the Populace of the Barony to design a badge for this new companionship, to be called the Golden Scale, and create a fictitious backstory about the award. THL Rhiannon Elandris of Glyndyfrdwy was called forward to read the story she wrote.

    After the story was read, Their Excellencies said that they had seen someone travel from other territories to stand with the fencers of the Barony, to guard Her Excellency and was in all ways but geography a part of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Alexia Cavalieri was called forth and named the First Companion of the Golden Scale.

    Lord Wulfgang Starke came forward and spoke of the Heavy Weapons Tournament that was held, despite the rain and need to relocate the list field. Duke Sven Gunnarsson was declared the winner and presented with a goblet as token of his achievements.

    Alexia Cavalieri, marshal for the Fencing Tournament, announced that great honor and amazing fencing was seen on the fields but one did overcome all.     Their Excellencies then asked Lord Gawin Hawkseye to speak of the archery that took place earlier in the day. Lord Gawin said that despite the rain, 25 archers took the field and that Snoori was the overwhelming victor. Scroll by THL Eleanore Godwin.

    Baron Caleb Reynolds then told of the skill on the Thrown Weapons field and thanked the Marshals that came out to help run the range. He then announced that Master Antonio de Luna had won the day. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds

    An Arts and Sciences competition was held during the day and Minamoto Roku-I Sakuarako announced that the winner, who had displayed an impressive display of chainmail, wished to remain anonymous. Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    Their Excellencies they said that there was on in the Barony who has shown great growth and skill on the Archery range. That he makes strings for his bows and arrows to use and shares his knowledge of the range with any who ask. Thus was Theodoric of York named a member of the Dragons Combatant in absentia.

    Their Excellencies again thanked all who came to the event, regardless of the predicted weather and wished them safe travels when they headed to their home.

    Palfreys and Polearms/Baronial Champs

    Being the court record of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael at Palfreys and Polearms, held on May 28, AS 51 (2016), as recorded by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant.

    v  Their Excellencies thanked all who attended the event and invited those in attendance for whom the event was their first SCA experience.  Those gentles were thanked for coming and offered the hospitality of Their Excellencies should they ever have a need.  

    v  His Excellencies then spoke of one Champion award that is a tradition in the Barony – t hat of recognizing a participant who has supported the Barony and entered the most in the day’s activities.  Fionnbharr the Mighty, steed of Mistress Ysabeau Tierclin was called into court and named this year’s Barony of the Rhydderich Hael Iron Man as he carried many of the entrants in the Equestrian Championship that day.  Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness. 

    v  Lord Robaird Michael Patrick Timothy James O’Suilleabhainn was called forth to speak as autocrat of the day.  Brother Bobby, as he is commonly known thanked greatly his staff for all their hard work to make the day happen.  

    v  He then told the populace that a thrown weapons tournament was held during that day and Master August Guiseppe de San Donato was the overall winner and was presented with a throwing knife case.  

    v  Their Excellencies then asked to hear of the Rapier Tournament that was held and THL Minamoto Roku-Sakurako, marshal of the tournament, regaled the tales of the flashing blades upon the field and that Lord Wolfgang Starke emerged victorious.   Saku then spoke of one who inspired many of the fencers with her ferocity and determination upon the field, and despite being a youth fencer took on any adult who would cross blades with her.  Wentliana verch Meuric was called into court and presented with a Battle Buddy to help her remember the day.  

    v  Lord Gawin Hawkseye then came into court to speak of the Archery tournament he held.  Despite a unique and interesting range, one proved more skilled than the rest and THL Cynwulf Rendell was named winner of the day.  

    v  Master Augusto Guiseppe de San Donato asked for a moment of time in court so that he could welcome Eleanore Godwin as newest member of the Rhydderich Hael Thrown Weapons Team.  

    v  Their Excellencies then made it known that there was an important piece of Baronial Officer Business that they would have witnessed my all present.  Baron Caleb Reynolds, Baronial Exchequer came forth and let it be known that he has served the in the office for many years and helped to ensure that the Barony has money.  But now it is time for him to retire and pass on the responsibilities to another.   Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd was called forth and presented with the trappings of the Office and appointed as the new Exchequer of the Rhydderich Hael.  

    v  As the event was also the Baronial Champions event, Their Excellencies called forward all of Their current Champions who were present.  They thanked those individuals who had served and represented the Barony over the last year and released them from their duties and asked for all regalia back.   They then asked all those gentles who had declared for champion positions to please stand and be recognized. 

    v  As the Barony could not remain without champions, their Excellencies called forward THL Minamoto Roku-Sakurako forward and spoke about her skill with a rapier and her determination on the field and asked that they please join Their court as Baronial Rapier Champion.    Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska 

    v  Court was then momentarily paused, as Mother Nature was making her presence known, and proceedings were moved to a drier location. 

    v  Court resumed and Their Excellencies then called THL Eleanore Godwin to come forth and asked that she take her place in Their court as their Thrown Weapons Champion for the next year.  Scroll by Baroness Katherine Kersey. 

    v  Their Excellencies then spoke of the creation of a new Champion position, that of Equestrian Champion.  THL Rhiannon Elandris of Glydrydwy was asked to be the Premier Equestrian Champion of the Barony.  Scroll by Mistress Arianna of Wynthrope and Mistress Liadhainb in Chleirigh na Coille. 

    v  The arts are dear to the hearts of Their Excellencies and They did need one to represent the Barony in this area.  THL Wolfgang Starke was called forth and asked if he would stand and Arts and Sciences Champion for the next year.  Scroll by THL Padraig O’Branduibh. 

    v  Rhys Penbras ap Daffyd was then summoned before the court.  His Excellency then told of how many years ago, the Barony itself was recognized by the Kingdom with a Keystone.  Since then, it is the tradition of the Barony to have one member, who is not a member of the Order in their own right, to wear the medallion and represent the Barony when the Kingdom called upon the Order.  They could not think of a worthier individual to wear the Keystone then Rhys. 

    v  However, Their Excellencies were not yet done with Rhys and bade him to stay.  Her Excellency then spoke of how he had come to the Barony and jumped in feet first, volunteering with site set up, tollner, and now Baronial Exchequer and they would recognize such spirit.  The member of the Order of the Dragons Concordium were asked to rise so that Rhys may see who was in the order of which he was now a member.  Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska. 

    v  Tadhg Mag Uidhir was called forth into court.  His Excellency spoke of the enthusiasm that Tadhg has upon the fighting field and the joy he brings with him.  That even as Tadhg was arriving on site that morning people were calling out “We love you Troy!”.  Such things should not be left unrecognized and asked that he join the court as Baronial Chivalry Champion.  Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds. 

    v  There being further business with Tadhg, he was asked to remain.  It was then told of how the fighters of the Barony were polled about their ranks and it was said by all that there was one who needed further recognition.  Tadhg Mag Uidhir was further named the Most Improved Fighter of the Year. 

    v  There is one award in the Barony that recognizes a member who, despite facing great difficulties throughout the year, as persevered and remained an active and vital force in the group.  Their Excellencies, called forth Lady Thowyndwood, previous holder of the Queen Ann’s Trophy.  She thanked the Barony, on her and her grandmother’s behalf, for bestowing the honor upon her for the last year.  She then returned the trophy into the care of Their Excellencies.  As the newest recipient was not present, it was announced that the trophy would be presented at a later date. 

    v  Their Excellencies then announced that, as there are many members of the Barony who could not be present today but had declared for Champion positions, that the Titles of Baronial Champions of Heavy Weapons, Bardic and Archery would be announced at a later date.

  • Ice Dragon 2016

    The Court Report of Their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of The Rhydderich Hael, held at The Festival of the Ice Dragon on April 2, AS. 50, as witnessed by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant , assisted by THL Zofia Kowalewska, Dragon’s Tongue Pursuivant.

    During the day:

    Their Excellencies wished to recognized the outstanding work of THL Minamoto Roku-I Sakurako for her making of beaded tokens to recognized the youth fencers participating in the day’s tournament and her help as baronial guard.  For this they did present her with a Hael Stone.

    Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd was also recognized with a Hael Stone for his hard work as Merchant Liaison of the event as well as helping at events with set up and tear down and for recently stepping up as Baronial Deputy Exchequer.

    Evening Court:

    Their Excellencies welcomed all and thanked them for attending the event.

    All members of the populace, for whom this was their first event, were called to come forward and receive a token of welcome from the hands of Their Excellencies.

    The Autocrat, Lord Wolfgang Starke, spoke words of welcome to all that attended the event and then extended gratitude for all those who volunteered to help make the event happen.  Without all the volunteers, Ice Dragon never would have happened.

    Their Excellencies then called for THL Pearce Redsmythe to come forward.   They spoke of his great skill in metalworking and the exquisite coronets he made for the Barony.  For all this he was inducted into the Order of the Golden Bee.  Scroll by Baroness Juliana Rosalia Dolce da Sienna and THL Padraig O’Branduibh

    Sir Sextus Plinius Callidus came forth and spoke of the great heavy weapons bear pit that occurred during the day and announced that the overall winner of the tournament was Duke Maynard von dem Steine.  Scroll Illuminated by Baroness Rosamund von Glinde.

    Their Excellencies then asked Don Behrend von Elmendorf to tell the populace of the fencing tournaments.  A pool round robin was first held and was one by Don Lodovick of Grays End.  Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.  A second tournament of dagger and parry object was Master Will Parris, who received a token.  The last competition was “Prettiest Kill or Best Death”.  It was agreed by all that watched that Duchess Dorinda Courtenay had the Prettiest Kill.

    Lady Bridgette de Sainte Mere-Eglise served as the Youth Fencing Marshal.  There were several authorizations held that morning, one of which won the tournament.  Simon á Fjárfelli was proclaimed winner.  Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska and THL Beatrice de Winter.

    Mistress Ysabeau Tiercelin was then asked to come and speak about the large Arts and Sciences competition that was held throughout the day.  She thanked all the entrants and judges, as no competition can happen without either.

    His Highness named THL Ruslan Ygorovich and the leather scabbards the lord made as His choice.  Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.

    Though Her Majesty was not able to attend the event, She asked that the Princess Royale Davia make a selection in Her place.  The Princess Royale selected Kalishka Peredslava as the Queen’s Choice/Princess Royale’s choice for her glass horn.  Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska.

    Her Highness then spoke of all the things that She saw and how many entries caught Her attention, but in the end one kept bringing Her back and thus named the fine cake made by Lady Arianna dal Vallone as Her choice.  Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.

    Their Excellencies Magnus and Miriel then spoke of how delighted they were to see so many varied entries in the competition.  They then declared that their choice was the wicker basket that was woven by Simon á Fjárfelli.  Scroll by Mistress Gillian Llywellyn of Ravenspur.

    The Kingdom A&S Ministers were call into court and announced that the metal foil beads by THL Rachel Daliceaux was their choice and presented a scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    Mistress Tiercelin then spoke of the culmination of the Arts and Sciences Competition and that this year there were four categories for the Pentathlon.

    The Laurel Category, for any entrants who hold the rank of Laurel, was won by Mistress Fredeburg Katzenellenbogen.  Scroll by THL Zofia Kowalewska and THL Beatrice de Winter.

    The Artisan Category, for entrants who hold a grant level arts and science award, was won by Mistress Irene von Schmetterling.  Scroll by THL Mary Elizabeth Clayson and Mistress Gillian Llywellyn of Ravenspur.

    The Novice Category, for all entrants with either an AoA level arts or no Arts and Sciences award, was won by Lady Elska á Fjárfelli.  Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    The Youth Category, for all entrants under the age of 14, regardless of any awards they hold, was won by Simon á Fjárfelli.  A token was presented in recognition of his achievement.

    Lady Biotta of Otterskeep asked for time in Their Excellencies court.  She announced that a raffle was held during the day to help augment the Kingdom and Baronial Travel Funds.  A total of $574 was raised.  This was evenly divided and one half was presented to the Kingdom and the other to the Barony.

    Their Excellencies again thanked all who atteneded.
