  • Final Baronial Champions AS 58

    Here begins the Court Report of Their Excellencies of the Rhydderich Hael, Magnus d’Lyons Baron, and Thalia Papillon Baroness, at Their Champs Event July 23, A.S. 58, in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Dame Eleanore Godwin, Recording Herald, with the assistance of Dame Zofia Kowalewska.

    Opening of Court: Lady Siobhan Readnait was called forward as Archery Champion . She thanked Their Excellencies for allowing her to serve as their champion, and returned the regalia of the Champion. Their Excellencies thanked her for her service and gave a token of appreciation from their hands. Court was suspended. Activities began.

    Court was opened and Lady Logan Latta d’Kent was called forward as she had business with Their Excellencies as outgoing Bardic Champion. She read a Haiku she had written for Their Excellecies in Their honor called “Butterfly and Lion” (a reference to the heraldry of each). She gave them a calligraphed copy of her Haiku. Their Excellencies thanked her. Court was suspended for activities to resume. Court was opened to continue business. Her Excellency Thalia requested all who participated in the day’s tourneys to present themselves before her to receive a personal token from her hand. She thanked them for their willingness to participate in the day’s activities. Vivants were cheered.

    The current champion of Thrown Weapons Tadeusz was called to thank him for his service, and Their Excellencies received the regalia of Thrown Weapons from him. Third place winner was announced as Eby, second place was Abdullah al Rashid, and the new Champion was announced as Baron Caleb Reynolds. He received the regalia, scroll was one of his blanks from when he was Baron, calligraphed by Dame Zosia.

    The current champion of Arts and Sciences Meuric Ap Gwillim was called to return the regalia of the Champion , he was thanked for his service. He also passed a new piece of regalia, a glass stein to use at bardic circles donated by Master Rhian. The new Champion Lady Genevieve O’Connor was called forward to receive the regalia of the Champion. Archery Championship had many participates. Third place was Baron Caleb Reynolds, second was Daniel of Blackthorn, and Champion is THL Abdullah al Rashid. He received the regalia and joined the Champions behind the thrones.

    Bardic Champion Lady Logan Latta d’Kent was called forward . Since there was no one who was ready to become champion, she was asked to stay on as Bardic Champion until such time as there could be a competition to determine her successor. She agreed. Baron Magnus spoke to the populace about the 7 Pearls event happening in August in Thescorre with Baroness Thalia. Also announced that there are many Known World Baronial competitions happening at Pennsic, and to compete where possible. Court of Their Excellencies was closed.

  • Baronial Champs – Heavy and Fencing AS 58

    An account of the court of Magnus and Thalia  Baron and Baroness  of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at Fight Practice on the 12th day of July in the 58rd year of the Society in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Reported by Dame Zofia Kowalewska and Dame Eleanore Godwin. 

    Their Excellencies called in Lord  Siegfrid Corloys to retire as the current Heavy Champion and thank him for his Service.  To step into those shoes, it was announced that Lord Thomas de Haukesle was the new Champion.  Scroll by The Hael Scribes and Dame Eleanore Godwin.

    Their Excellencies called in THLady Katerin Starke to also retire as the current Fencing Champion and thank her for her Service.  It was then announced that Armiger Fuego was the new Champion.  Scroll by The Hael Scribes and Dame Eleanore Godwin.

    Additionally, tradition holds that the most improved fighter be named.   Their Excellencies called upon Rose and presented them with a dagger and a ring from Her Excellency.

    Lastly, Lord Meuric ap Gwillim was presented with is scroll from Ice Dragon.

  • Ice Dragon AS 57

    An account of the court of Magnus and Thalia, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Festival of the Ice Dragon, the 25th day of March in the 57th year of the Society (2023 in the common tongue) in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Reported by Maestro Filipo de Sancto Martino.

    Morning Court

    Their Excellencies welcomed all to the Celebration of the Passing of the Ice Dragon

    The Co Autocrats; Lady Genevieve O’Connor and Baroness Miriel du Lac then made a few event announcements and then welcomed everyone for attending.

    Then the morning court of Magnus and Thalia, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael was suspended.

    Afternoon Court

    The Court of Magnus and Thalia, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael was re-opened.

    Their Excellencies welcomed and thanked Their Majesties as well as everyone for attending.

    The Co Autocrats; Lady Genevieve O’Connor and Baroness Miriel du Lac were called into court to thank their staff.

    Their Excellencies asked for Baronial Archers known as the Hael Hounds to stand, and then Archery Co-Captains Lady Simmonetta and Lady Siobhan were called into Court to address those in attendance on a matter of business. Youth archer, Jadzia was called into court and inducted into the Hael Hounds for her prowess on the archery range.

    Their Excellencies then called Lord Davin ap Einion to announce the winners of that days Heavy Weapons Bear Pit.  His Grace, Sir Timothy of Arindale  was called into court. He was awarded a stick of rattan for which he called forth Katla and Hill. His Grace spoke of their prowess both that day and at fighter

    practices in his area. He then presented the rattan to them. The award scroll for his Grace was read into court. Scroll by Baron Brother Bobby.

    Their Excellencies did call into court Lady Brigette de Sainte Mere-Eglise to announce the winner of the days Fencing Tournament.  Lord Robert MacEwin of Thornhill was called into court and announced the winner. Scroll by Master Caleb Reynolds.

    Their Excellencies called into court Baron Andriú mac Domhnaill of Thescore to annouce the winner of the Youth fighting tournament.  Hjotr Sigvaldison was called in and declared the winner of the day.     Mistress Cori Ghora was called forth by their Excellencies to bring news from the Pent. She talked about the high quality of the entries, the artists involved and thanked her staff

    Her Ladyship Æsa Hegulfsdottir was called into court and awarded First Place in the Pent. Scroll by Cassia Caratacca.

    Her Ladyship Sumayya al Ghaziyah was called into court and awarded Second Place in the Pent. Scroll by Master Caleb Reynolds.

    Master Caleb Reynolds was called into court and was awarded Third place in the Pent. Scroll by Baroness Katherine Kersey.

    Thier Excellencies turned over court to Their Majesties so that they could announce the King and Queens choice for best entry in the Pent. Lady Elinor Walden was welcomed into court and announced as their choice.

    Mistress Cori Ghora was invited to participate in a game with the Herald “called who am I”. Mistress Cori correctly guessed correctly. Lord Mueric ap Gwillim was called before Their Excellencies. Each complimented him on his elaborate and detailed presentation.

    Meesteres Odriana vander Brugghe was welcomes into court. She spoke of her love of doccumentation and the arts. She was pleased to announce the winner of her award for Best Research. Lady Elinor Walden was called into court and awarded the generous cash prize as well as many well-earned accolades.

    Their Excellencies welcomed Lord Davin ap Einion and Lady Brigette de Sainte Mere-Eglise into Court to thank their staff of Marshalls and MOLs.  Gift bags were then dispensed to those that helped out in that day’s tournaments.

    Her Excellency, Thalia said that she would be calling attention to that person who inspired her that day. Esteban, the Baron and Baronesses personal Dragon 

    Wrangler was called into court and complimented for his talents, personality and joy that garnered Her Excellencies Inspiration for this day.

    And thus completed their court……   maybe

    Their Majesties suspended their Court so that the Baron and Baroness could attend to one more order of business. Maestro Filipo de Sancto Martino called into court. He then invited Mistress Jenna of Lions Tower and Baron Brother Bobby. There was talk of cookie related activities at Investiture and a donation that was made in the names of both the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael and the Kingdom of AEthelmearc. Filipo read a letter of from the Executive Director of The Friends of the Night People Organization thanking the group for its genericity and detailing the good that donation would do in the life of someone turning their life around. The Maestro thanked those in attendance for their charity and chivalry.

  • Baronial Seven Pearls

    A recording of the proceedings of the court of Their Excellencies of the Rhydderich Hael, Baron Padraig and Baroness Juliana, 12th Baronage of the Rhydderich Hael at the Seven Pearls Event on the 26th day of August to the 28th day of August, A.S. LVII (2022) as presented and recorded by Lady Siobhan inghean ui Ruadhain, Ice Dragon Pursuivant, with assistance by Dame Zofia Kowalewska

    On the 27th  Day of August:

    Court was opened.

    Their excellencies welcomed all to the event and the assembled Baronages from across Æthelmearc. The Autocrat, Baroness Miriel du Lac was called forward and she thanked her staff and marshals.   Their Excellencies then presented each of the visiting Baronies Gifts from the region along with the plaques from the Arts and Sciences tournament. 

    Their excellencies gave leave to their cousins of the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands to hold court.

    Report of the Court of Their Excellencies Brandubh O’Donnghaile and Hilderun Hügelmannas, 8th Baronage of the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands at the Seven Pearls Event upon the 28th day of August, A.S. LVII (2022) heralded by Lord Ronan O’Conall.

    Court was opened.

    Their Excellencies gave leave to their cousins of the Barony of Thescorre to hold court.

    Report of the Court of Their Excellencies Andriu and Nuzha 10th Baronage of Thescorre at the Seven Pearls Event upon the 28th day of August, A.S. LVII (2022) heralded by Kaðlín Sigvaldiskona, Ravens Tongue Pursuivant.

    Their Excellencies gave leave to their cousins of the Barony of the Delftwood to hold court.

    Report of the Court of Their Excellencies Jean Pierre and Caterine, 7h Baronage of St. Swithin’s Bog, at the Shoot in the Wildwood and Seven Pearls Event upon the 31st day of August, A.S. LIV (2019), heralded by Mistress Ælfra Long, Vambrace Pursuivant.

    Court was opened.

    Their Excellencies commented on the bravery of the fighters and called forth Don Cyrus Augur, Champion for Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands, and named him the Seven Pearls Fencing Champion. Scroll illuminated and calligraphed by Arvik Hyttoinen

    The court of Nicolo and Magge was resumed.

    They then shared their love of performances, and called forth Lady Megge Gormshuileach, Champion of Deltwood, to name her the Seven Pearls Bardic Champion. She was also warned to NOT drink from the Bardic Regalia Cup.  Scroll Illuminated and calligraphed by Sir Murdoch Bayne

    The court of Cunedda and Alana was resumed.

    Their Excellencies noted their pride in having held onto the Seven Pearls Heavy Weapons Championship for multiple years. They summoned Cormacc mac Gilla Brigde, Champion of the Barony of Endless Hills, and named him Seven Pearls Heavy Weapons Champion.     The Court of Amalie resumed.

    She spoke of her love for Throwing and was happy to be able to name the Champion for Thrown Weapons.   She called forth Wolfgang von Wylderwood Champion of the Barony of  Delftwood and named him Seven Pearls Thrown Weapons Champion.  Baroness Amalie also noted that this gentle has only been throwing for short time and has proven worthy of the title.  Illumination by Roberta McMorland and Baroness Amalie Reinhardt and Words and Calligraphy by Lady Caera Fitzpatrick.

     The Court of Andriu and Nuzha was resumed.

    They spoke of the Arts and Sciences displayed by the Champions of the seven Baronies, and how difficult it was to choose a winner. They called forth Brother Meuric ap Gwillim, Champion of the Rhydderich Hael, and named him Seven Pearls Arts and Sciences Champion.     Their Excellencies then called in Dame Zofia Kowalewska who ran the Arts and Sciences display to announce the Populace vote.  Brother Meuric ap Gwillim was beckoned to return and name Populace choice and was presented with a prize.

    The Court of their Exellencies Brandubh and Hilderun resumed.

    Their Excellencies explained they had the honor of naming the Seven Pearls Archery Weapons Champion. They sought Tigernach mac Cathail, Champion of the Barony of Endless Hills, to name him as the Seven Pearls Thrown Weapons Champion.   • Bardic and A&S Champions AS57

    An account of the court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc held at Fight Practice on the 22nd day of June in the 57rd year of the Society in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Reported by Dame Zofia Kowalewska, stand in Herald.

    Their Excellencies Juliana & Padraig of Rhydderich Hael, welcomed all attending. The Bardic competition was first of the night.  Baron Brother Bobby, current Bardic champion, welcomed sole competitor Lady Logan Latta de Kent who provided a spectacular Japanese tale of brothers and family loyalty.  

    Their Excellencies shifted to Arts and Sciences with the outgoing Champion Baron Rhion Elandris of Glyndyfrdwy and had each of the competitors introduce themselves and provide a brief introduction into their submission.  

    Needing a moment to examine the entries, court was suspended. 

    On return, their Excellencies announced that Lady Logan Latta de Kent as the new Bardic Champion  The regalia was exchanged and Baron Brother Bobby was released.  (Scroll by Cacht ingen Ui Cheithernaig and the Hael Scribal Guild). 

    In the Arts and Sciences, Brother Meuric ap Gwillim was announced as the new Arts and Sciences Champion for his research and execution of Hide Glue.    Again the regalia was exchanged but Baron Rhion had further words.  He presented the new Champion a glass mug with instructions to return home and Celebrate their hard work with their libation of choice.   Baron Rhion further asked that a new tradition begin to pass that cup or another onto the next Champion to Celebrate their endeavors ( Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds)

  • Rapier Champion AS 57

    An account of the court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc held at Fight Practice on the 15h day of June in the 57rd year of the Society (2022) in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Reported by Dame Zofia Kowalewska, stand in Herald. 

     Their Excellencies Juliana & Padraig of Rhydderich Hael, welcomed all attending and wished all good luck in the tournament.  Baron Caleb Reynolds, current undefeated champion for 3 years  was called forward to provide instructions and present the fencers.  All those competing for the honor of next champion or for fun presented themselves to their Excellences. 

    The tournament proceeded with THLady Thalia Papillon as the MOL as a Three Pass Round Robin.    The Victor of the Tournament and new Rapier Champion was called forward –  THLady Katerin Starke.  Baron Caleb turned the regalia over to his successor and the scroll was read (Scroll by THLady Edith of Winterton and Lord Sean MacNevin called Tree).

  • Summer’s End A.S. 56 (2021)

    An account of the court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc. Held at Summer’s End in the Canton of Beau Fleuve  September 11 Anno Societatus 56 (2021) reported by  Lady Siobhan Readnait, Ice Dragon Pursuivant  Deputy  

    Morning Court: 

     Their Excellencies Juliana & Padraig of Rhydderich Hael, welcomed all attending, invited the populace to visit at their pavilion and to come see them to enter the plague mask competition. 

    THL Eleanor Godwin was invited into court and presented gifts to the Hael Hounds -Banners made for Master Cynwylf Rendell when he was Hound Captain and his ancestral captain medallion.  These were received with gratitude and love by the Hound Captains Lady Simonetta and Lady Siobhan Readnait.  The captains remained in court to give Nicholas and Bill their Hound favors, making them official hounds.  Archery rank tokens were then distributed. 

    Morning court was suspended until evening. 

    Evening court: 

    Their Excellencies Juliana and Padraig thanked all for attending the first Hael event in two years, and hoped all had enjoyed their day. 

    Autocrat Baron Caleb Reynolds came forward to thank all for attending and to thank and introduce event staff. He then asked the Marshalls in charge to announce their winners.  

    •  The winner of the heavy fighting was announced as Sir Vladisla Nikolich. (Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova) 
    •  The winner of the  rapier tournament was Lord Richard Fierman of Herontir. (Scroll by Brother Bobby) 
    •  The winner of Arts & Sciences was THLady Maggie Rue. (THLady Eleanore Godwin) 
    •  The winner (and only entrant) for the plague mask competition was Lord Matheus Weasel 
    •  The winner of the  thrown weapons tourney was THLord Meinolf Grimsson (Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds) 
    •  The winner of the archery tourney was Baron Edward Harbinger. (Scroll by Dame Zofia Kowalewska)

     Baron Caleb then called forth the thrown weapons community for awarding of rank badges and favors.  

    Their Excellencies then requested the presence of Abdullah Ishkan Al-Rashid and Lady Genevieve O’Connor.  Lord Abdul was given his backlog scroll for entry into the Order of the Portcullis for going above and beyond to build a ramp For Harold and Elisabeth at their home to allow for greater accessibility.  (Scroll by Dame Zofia Kowalewska).  Also present was the backlog scroll for Lord Ima’nis Gen’ichi le’srda.     Lady Genevieve O’Connor was the welcomed to the Order of the Golden Bee in recognition of her weaving and embroidery skills. (Scroll by THLord Sasson de Sancta Victoria) 

    Lady Nycalse d’Ozier la Tailleresse was then called forth and asked to be this year’s Guardian of the Ancestral Baronial Keystone in recognition of her good works and service.  (Scroll is a work in progress)

  • Virtual Ice Dragon A.S 55, the second year of the plague

    An account of the virtual court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of Aethelmearc. Held  virtually April 24 Anno Societatis 55 (2021 in the common tongue)  in the ethereal Barony of Rhydderich Hael  reported the THL Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant and White Horn Herald.

    Their Excellencies welcomed the populace and invited Lady Thalia Papillion to address the populace.  She thanked all those who made it possible, including Mistress Cori and Lady Lijsbet. She then invited Mistress Cori in to explain the changes this year to the Pent/Arts and Sciences competition. 

    As tradition holds, Their Majesties and Their Excellencies selected their Choice Winners.

  • Virtual Court June 3 A.S.55 (2020)

    An account of the virtual court of Padraig and Julianna, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of Aethelmearc. Held online during the Baronial Meeting on June 3, Anno Societatis 55 (2020 in the common tongue)  in the ethereal Barony of Rhydderich Hael  reported the THL Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant and White Horn Herald.

    Their excellencies wish to recognize our Seneschal THLord Abdul Ishkhan Al-Rashid and Lord Ima’nish Gen’ichi le’srda (Josh) for or going above and beyond to build a ramp for Harold and Baroness Elisabeth as well as other accessibility improvements for their home.  For this, they were inducted into the Order of the Portcullis (Scrolls forthcoming).

  • Summer’s End 2019

    Summer’s End in the Canton of Beau Fleuve August 24 Anno Societatus 54

    An account of the court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of Aethelmearc. Held at Summer’s End in the Canton of Beau Fleuve August 24 Anno Societatus 54 reported by THL Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant and White Horn Herald with Noble Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd assisting.

    Court was opened in the evening with their Excellencies welcoming all to a wonderful day. They summoned the Autocrat, Lady Thalia Papillon and thanked her for all her work. Lady Thalia took a moment to also thank the populace for attending and thanked her hard working staff.

    Noble Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd also had business with Their Excellencies and the populace. The Baronial Exchequer position will now be held by Lady Giuseppina Michelle da Canal and Mistress Cori as Deputy. Noble Rhys steps down as they are now the Kingdom Exchequer.

    Minamoto Roku-i Sakurako and Baroness Miriel du Lac were called into court and tales of their hard work and dedicated on the fencing lists were made known to all. They were inducted into the Order of the Dragon’s Combatant.

    Although Lord Fearghus mac Eoin could not stay for court, he presented their Excellencies with the Chivalry Shield to passed on.     Two additional members of the Hael were honored for their improvement on the lists.

    Adam was named Most Improved Fighter.

    Rose was named Most Improved Fencer, who only just recently authorized.

    Lady Thalia Papillon was asked again to join Their Excellencies as her time as the Baronial Keystone holder was up. She was thanked for her service and the regalia was returned. To take her place, Lady Siobhan Readnait was called in and asked to carry the Keystone for the Barony as her work with the Archers, in the kitchen and anywhere is needed reflects the service the Barony holds dear.

    There were 5 tournaments this day as well.

    In Archery, Lady Siobhan Readnait announced that there was a TIE!. Meinole Grimsson and Godfrey tied with 72 points. The Prize was presented to Meinole and Scroll to Godfrey (Scroll illumination by Plinia Epicurius Curia and calligraphy/words by THLady Zofia Kowalewska ).

    From the Thrown Weapons range, Master Antonio de Luna proclaimed that Lord Snorri skyti Bjarnarsson bested all the other throwers in the Friend or Foe, err, RIVAL tournament.

    Baron Caleb Reynolds declared that Richard of Heronter the winner of the Fencing Tournament. He was also named Most Chivalrous on the list and was presented with a token of thanks. (Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds)

    Not one but two Heavy Weapons tournaments were held. The first run by Sir Callidus and the second was Hagar’s Traveling Road Show, oversaw by Lady Svava.     The final tournament of the day was Arts and Sciences. Baron Magnus de Lion announced that Duchess Siobhan was not only the Autocrat’s pick for her 12th century Finish spiral head piece, but the Populace as well for her apron. (scrolls by Lord Micro of Soft and Baron Magnus).

    Their Excellencies also had picked their choice and called in Malleen Fenella Menzies (called Riven). They were impressed with her illuminated letter and her hair sticks. (scroll illumination by Averill Messinger and calligraphy/words by THLady Zofia Kowalewska).

    Their Majesties picked a choice as well. THLady Renata Rouge was called in for her 11th century Finnish “Wonder Woman” mittens. (scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds)

    At long last, Mistress Brynn ni MacRose was summoned by their Excellencies. She has come and cooked several Summer’s end (and a Kingdom 12th Night, specifically with the new Baron) feasts as well as routinely comes and helps in the kitchens for the event. For her unwavering dedication and support of a Barony that is not hers, Padraig and Juliana were moved to add her to the Dragon’s Scale.

    Their Excellencies called before them Noble Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd. For their service above and beyond the call of duty for both the Barony and Kingdom, they saw it fit to add them to the Venerable Order of the Ice Dragon.     It was at this point, Their Excellencies wanted words with Lord Davin ap Einion and Lady Nycaise D’Ozier la Tailoresse.

    For Lord Davin’s Near endless energy, willingness to help, eagerness to be involved, continued Service and work as Demo Coordinator, he was added to the Order of the Dragon’s Concordium. (scroll by Mistress Liadhain ni Chleirigh na Coillte)

    For Lady Nycaise (called Taylor) her involvement with the children’s activities at Ice Dragon, opening her home for sewing and her beautiful works of applique and embroidery were all the more reason to add her to the Order of the Dragon’s Concordium.     Baron Caleb Reynolds was called before Their Excellencies. They spoke of his Extraordinary acts of continual courtesy and kindness and inducted him to the Noble Union of Lords and Ladies.     Seeing that the order was not quite complete, Their Excellencies were compelled to add one more. They called Lord Siegfred Corloys (called Troy by many) and remarked of his courtesy both on and off the field. For that they inducted him to the Noble Union of Lords and Ladies (Scroll by Their Excellencies Padraig and Juliana – scroll forthcoming).

    Being no further business, court was closed.
