  • Ice Dragon 2019

    Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon, the 13th day of April in the 53rd year of the Society (2019 in the Common year) in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael.

    An account of the court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon, the 13th day of April in the 53rd year of the Society (2019 in the Common year) in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael.     Morning Court:

    Their Excellencies welcomed all to the celebration of Ice Dragon.

    Noble Rhys Penbas ap Dafydd then made a few announcement for the day and thanked all for coming again.

    Their Excellencies then wished to see Sir Thomas the Mighty. Being a little shy, Their Excellencies joined Sir Thomas and his family in court. Being brave and mighty, a true example of a champion, Her Excellency Juliana made Sir Thomas her Champion. Sir Thomas presented her with a bouquet of pussy willows. Their Majesties also wished to speak with Sir Thomas. His Majesty presented Sir Thomas with a book of Knightly Virtues and Shield. Her Majesty presented Thomas with a bracelet made by her hands is working on a scroll for Sir Thomas. Sir Thomas then presented Her Majesty with a bouquet of pussy willows.

    So worthy a warrior needs to be equipped for battle. He was presented with sword, armor, collar, cloak, spurs and a banner. Items were presented by Baron William Freskyn Murray, Baroness Katherine Kiersey, their son Nicholas, Mistress Jenna and Baroness Clarice Roan.

    Brother Bobby presented Their Excellencies with an Ice Dragon Egg.

    Court was suspended till evening.

    Court Resumed and Noble Rhys Penbas ap Dafydd made some final announcements.

    Baron Caleb was then called in to announce the winners of the Rapier tournaments. Lord Robert Hawksworth took first place in the Rapier Tournament. In the second contest of the day, a trivia based contest, Team Milkshake (Lord Andreas Jager von Holstein and Eyrny) claimed victory. Rapier scrolls by Master Caleb Reynolds.

    Lord Abdullah al-Rashid was then summoned to bring word from the Rattan lists. Douglas Henry (first place- Scroll by THLady Zofia Kowalewska) was victorious over Duke Maynard von dem Steine (second place- Scroll by Mistress Jenna). Lady Svava was awarded with Best Kit.     Lord Dyryke Hastings then announced the winners of the Youth combat. Robie placed first overall. Scroll by Mistress Liadhain ni Chleirigh na Coillte. Most chivalrous was presented to Lily. Scroll by Roland and Mistress Liadhain ni Chleirigh na Coillte.

    Mistress Cori Ghora was then asked to present herself with news from the Arts and Sciences Pentathalon. Their Majesties chose Baroness Aranwen verch Rhys ap Gwalter as their choice for her work on the beaded belt on the Zweeloo princess outfit.     The Pentathlon winners were then announced

    Their Excellencies then announced a series of new orders were in the process of being added to our Baronial Awards. The Children of the Hael deserve the same recognition for their service, their art and skill on the lists. Once such youth was deserving to be named the principle to the unnamed youth Service order. Wentliana Verch Meuric was called forward and award that honor. Promissory scroll by their Excellences Padraig and Juliana.

    Final Court Report for Magnus and Miriel:

    An account of the final court of Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Baronial Investiture/40th Anniversary , the 1st day of December in the 53rd year of the Society (2018 in the Common year) in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael.     Their Excellencies welcomed all to share in the day and thanked them for joining them in their final court.

    Some old business needed to be attended. Although not present, it was their Excellencies’ wish to induct THLady Brigette de Sainte Mere-Église into the Order of the Golden Bee in absentia to recognize her for her talent on the hammered dulcimer, her scribal works and her bardic works.     THL Cynwulf Rendell and THL Eleanore Godwin asked for a brief moment of their Excellencies’ time. Gifted to their Excellencies was a little “retirement land and home”. They also asked to induct new Hounds into the pack. Gaston, Josephine, AsStride and Dark Oak were welcomed and asked to wear the Hound’s badge. Baron Magnus asked THL Cynwulf Rendell and THL Eleanore Godwin to remain. Because of these two, our Archery community is now 39 strong and growing. Baron Magnus gathered the broken arrows of the Hael Hounds and turn then into favors and presented the Hael Hounds the favors.

    Their Excellencies next wished to thank a few individuals. In the Words of Baron Magnus “The story originates with our good friend THL Wolfgang Starcke. At one of our many events, when the time came to set up the Baronial thrones we discovered that some of the wooden pegs had gone missing. Wolfgang made his way into the woods and collected sticks that he broke into pieces and used as pegs so the thrones could be assembled. To me this simple act of service exemplified what service means in the Society. How small acts of service support everything that we do and stand for. As I prepared to step down I discovered that several of these small sticks remained in the thrones bags. It was then I decided that these should be made into relics to honor Wolfgang and the service he gave.”

    Lord Fearghus mac Eoin was then asked to come forward and ask to hold the Champions ready for the Incoming Excellencies.

    Minamoto Roku-i Sakurako and Lady Natsu (represented by Lord Chebe) were called forth to receive their severance pay for all the work done. Each were thanked and presented with a 5lb bag of rice which should help sustain their families for some time. Those who served their Excellencies were released.

    Being no further business, the final court of Magus and Miriel was closed.

  • First Court, Baronial Investiture 2018

    First Court, Baronial Investiture/40th Anniversary, the 1st day of December in the 53rd year of the Society in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael

    An account of the court of Padraig and Juliana, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Baronial Investiture/40th Anniversary , the 1st day of December in the 53rd year of the Society (2018 in the Common year) in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael.     Morning Court:

    Their Excellencies wished to see Lord Chebe and Lady Simonetta and THLord Cynwulf Rendell and installed them as Captain of the Guards (Sheriff) and Head Retainer and the Hounds as guards.

    Then, the Senechal, Exchequer, Knight Marshall and Pursuivant were asked to remain in their positions and all agreed.

    The Champions were then asked to present themselves and asked to continue to serve and take their place in court. All agreed and stood as the Rightful Baronial Champions.

    Baron Padraig and Baroness Juliana addressed the populace and thanked them for attending as it not only their Investiture, but the Barony’s 40th Birthday. They asked all to enjoy the day, the food and the stabbing.

    Court was suspended.

    Court was reopened and Their Excellencies sought Lord Joe the Silent. For all of his years supporting the Barony and as a Baronial Guard and as an example of quiet, thoughtful courtesy, he was added to the Noble Union of Lords and Ladies.     The two Hael Stones were given to Baroness Anastasie de Lamoure and Giuseppina Michele da Canal.

    Court was suspended.

    Court was reopened and their Excellencies addressed the populace thanking all for attending. They then called forward the autocrats for the event – Mistress Tiercelin and Baron Rhiannon and thank them for all the hard work to put this special event together.

    Behrend von Elmendorf was called forward and thanked for helping with the Rapier Activities.

    Their Excellencies had words with Baroness Rosamund von Glinde. For her work as a Scribe and all her “subtleties” she was named the newest member to the Order of the Golden Bee. Scroll by THLady Zofia Kowalewska.

    THLady Meredyth Maskmaker was called and for her decades of quiet service to the barony, she was added to the Venerable Order of the Ice Dragon. Scroll by Baroness Ekaternia Volkova.

    It was then the wish of their Excellencies that Lord Abdulla al Rashid be presented. For his prowess in archery, fencing, and heavy, he was named to the Order of the Dragon’s Combatant . Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithnes.

    Armiger Fuego was called to stand before their Excellencies. For their enthusiasm as a fencer, and helping out at events, Fuego was added to the Order of the Dragon’s Concordium. Scroll is a Work in Progress by THLady Brigette de Sainte Mere-Église and THLady Zofia Kowalewska.

    Lady Biota Merme asked for a moment of time in court and presented their Excellencies and Her Majesty the proceeds from the Auction to be added to the coffers for Travel needs. A Total was $410.00 a split of $205.00 each.

    As a piece of business, Their Excellencies of Thescorre, Baron Eldjarn and Baroness Dubheasa were asked to come forward. The contract was presented and agreed upon that Baronial Champs this coming year will be a shared event in Thescorre and the Hael will host the following year.

  • Summer’s End 2018

    Summer’s End, the 22nd day of September in the 53rd year of the Society in the Canton of Beau Fleuve

    An account of the court of Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Summer’s End, the 22nd day of September in the 53rd year of the Society in the Canton of Beau Fleuve. Reported by THLady Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant with the assistance of deputy Lady Siobhan Readnait, Lady Siometta d’Alfassi, Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd and Willa of Loch Soilleir.

    Court was opened on the Thrown Weapons range with much jubilation.

    THL Ren Finnemore and Master Antonio de Luna were named newest Companions of the Dragons Scale as they were more than Friends but FAMILY to the Hael for so long.

    Lady Thalia Papillon was then sought out on the Heavy Lists as the MOL. For the length of the Baronial Champions challenge she once again proved her might was named Iron Man winner having competed in the most events. Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.

    Court was suspended and moved inside and reopened in the main hall.

    Lord Fearghus mac Eoin was called forward from the kitchen and asked to stand as the Baronial Chivalry Champion. Scroll by Mistress Liadain ni Chleirigh na Coille.

    Court was suspended.

    Even Court Resumed and their Excellencies thanked the populace for attending and hoped all had a wonderful time.

    Lady Thalia Papillon was called forward as Autocrat and thanked her staff: Feya, Lady Simonetta d’Alfassi, Wentliana Verch Meuric (Mina), Meuric ap Gwillim, Lord Chebe, Lady Natsu, Kaido and Layla.

    THLord Cynwulf Rendell and THLady Eleanore Godwin had Hael Hound business. THLady Zofia Kowalewska and Sarafina de Lucca were made Hounds and presented with the badges.

    Baron Caleb had old business to attend to. As a reminder to those in the Canton, please review and sign the alternate arms for the Canton petition. Also, the Pixie Treasure needed to be divided up after their defeat. Those which received “gold” were Lady Thalia, Feya, Lady Simonetta, Lord Abdul and his Excellency Baron Magnus.

    Lady Fiona Margaret asked for a brief moment to thank the Barony and the Kingdom for welcoming her back after a long time away.

    THLady Eleanore Godwin was called in to be added to the List of the Order of the Golden Bee to be celebrated for her skills in the Arts and for her Service to the Society to promote the growth of the Arts & Sciences. Scroll by THLady Zofia Kowalewska.

    Then Lady Natsu and Lord Chebe were called in from the kitchen (again) and named to the Order of the Dragon’s Concordium as they are Awesome. Scrolls by Minamoto Ruku-i Sakurako.

    Kyen Ashe and Layla al-Ghudariyyah were also called and added to the Order of the Dragon’s Concordium. Kyen for his quiet service to the Barony especially at Pennsic (Scroll by Mistress Juliana Rosalia Dolce da Siena and THL Padraig O’Branduibh) and Layla for her tireless service to the MOL and Barony.

    The Order was still missing one. Lady Thalia Papillon was added to the Order of the Dragon’s Concordium since she has leapt into multiple activities include siege, archery, thrown weapons, fencing, Arts & Science and event staffing. Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.

    THL Cynwulf Rendell was then summoned. His service to the Barony and Kingdom as been long and needed to be recognized. For his years of service, he was added to the Venerable Order of the Ice Dragon (VOID). Scroll by Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd.

    In breaking with tradition, not one person would be named the Queen Anne winner. Instead, the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael and the Canton of Beau Fleuve was named For enduring hardship as a populace and continuing to support the Barony and participate in activities.

    Several Tournaments were held and victors to be named.

    The Heavy Weapons tournament winner was Duke Marcus Eisenwald. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds. A Second Place Prize was awarded to Maximilian.

    The Fencing Tournament winner was Don Behrend von Elmendorf – Scroll by THLady Zofia Kowalewska.

    The Thrown Weapons Tournament winner was Master Juan Miguel Cezar – Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds. In the Vikings vs Pirates, the Vikings were victorious!

    The Archery Tournament winner was Brian Wypij- Scroll by THLady Brigette de Sainte Mere-Église.

    Master Juan Miguel Cezar then asked for but a moment of time in court. At the last Scarlet Guard Inn event, Baron Magnus gave up his chance and arrows to win to his Lady Thalia could complete the challenge. In thanks, Master Juan Miguel presented his Excellency with an Iron Tassel.

    Being the final tournament, there were two winners named. Lord Chebe was declared victor in the general category and Master Caleb Reynolds won the Scroll Blanks portion. Prizes crafted by Master Benedict Fergus atte Mede

  • A&S and Bardic, 2018

    A&S and Bardic on the 25th day of August in the 53rd year of the Society

    An account of the court of Magnus and Miriel Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at Fight Practice on the 25th day of August in the 53rd year of the Society in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael.     Their Excellencies thanks all for coming out to the LAST two champion competitions.

    THLady Eleanor Godwin was called in as the outgoing Arts and Sciences Champion. She returned her regalia and was thanked for standing and representing the Barony (token forthcoming). The new champion was called in – Minamoto Roku-i Sakurako and was asked if she would take up that duty. Saku agreed and took her place with the Champions. Scroll by THLady Eleanor Godwin.

    Eadaoin Ruadh was called forward and also returned the the Champion Regalia for the Bardic. She was thanked for her service and winning the 7 Pearls championship last year. (token forthcoming). A new Champion needed to be named and Lady Logan deKent was called forward. She too was asked if she would stand with the Champions and Lady Logan agreed. (Scroll Forthcoming)

    Lord Theowyndwood Keyote and Potter were both called forward. Both authorized in the Hael and her Excellency presented them with Fencing Sashes to wear in commemoration of that feat.

  • Fight Practice 2018

    Fight Practice on the 25th day of July in the 53rd year of the Society

    An account of the court of Magnus and Miriel Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, with the Excellency Heirs Baroness Juliana Rosalia Dolce di Siena and THL Padraig O’Branduibh, held at Fight Practice on the 25th day of July in the 53rd year of the Society in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Reported by THLady Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant.

    His Excellency Magnus thanked all for attending such a special Tournament. But some Business must be done before the new Champion can be named. Lord Abdullah al-Rashid was called before their Excellencies to receive the signed Champion Scroll.

    Then Artemisia da Manarola was called forward to return the Baronial Keystone as a new recipient has been chosen. She presented a gift of a new Cord and Box (for safe keeping of the Keystone). Their Excellencies thanked her for her service and wanted to express their gratitude with a “small token”. The Kingdom Scroll was read before all inducting her into the Order of the Keystone at the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Fair from June (Scroll by Sulan).

    The NEW Baronial Keystone Holder was then summoned – Lady Thalia Papillon. Mistress Baroness Juliana spoke of her passion to do “All the things” from Martial activities, MOL, photography and Autocratting. THL Padraig O’Branduibh, having been a previous holder of the keystone commented how Service is not easy but it helps make the magic happen and thanked her taking on such difficult jobs so quickly.

    Their Excellencies then called forward Lady Thalia Papillon, Layla Al-Ghudariyyah, and Don Behrend von Elmendorf and thanked them for running the Tournament today. Baron Caleb Reynolds was called the winner of the Tournament. Lady Thalia Papillon was then called forward to return the most Improved Fencer. Fuego was called forward and name Most Improved Fencer and was asked if she would take up the challenge and accept the position of Fencing Champion. She accepted and with it received the regalia. Their Excellencies expressed their joy as this means a great deal as Fuego would be filling the shoes of great fencer, THL Wolfgang Stark. (Scroll is a WORK IN PROGRESS)

  • Regional Archery Muster

    Regional Archery Muster on the 22nd day of July in the 53rd year of the Society

    An account of the court of Magnus Baron of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Regional Archery Muster on the 22nd day of July in the 53rd year of the Society in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael.     His Excellency thanks all in attendance for coming out to support the Archers and the Champion Competitors stating that no one is as fierce as the Hael Hound. Although Her Excellency Miriel could not be in attendance, she sent word and best wishes those competing. His Excellency thanked Lady Simonetta d’ Alfassi for her service in her time as Champion and wished all good luck. COURT WAS SUSPENDED FOR THE COMPETITION.

    Court was reopened at the completion of the Competition

    His Excellency once again thanked all the Archers who braved the course. He then called Lady Thalia Papillon forward. She demonstrated great skill as this was her second Champion event But as she is our Thrown Weapons Champion, his Excellency saw it fit to provide their first Champion a companion for the long trip to the 7 Pearls.     His Excellency thanks all in attendance for coming out to support the Throwers and then thanked Lord Akayuma Yatarou Kage’o for his time as Champion and wonderful tournament.   • Kingdom A&S Faire 2018

    Kingdom Arts and Sciences Faire, held on June 23, AS 53 (2018)

    An account of the court of Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael in the Kingdom of AEthelmearc, held at the Arts and Sciences Fair on the 23 day of June in the 53rd year of the Society in the Canton of Beau Fleuve. Reported by THLady Zofia Kowalewska, Ice Dragon Pursuivant with the assistance of Lady Siobhan Readnait.

    His Excellency thanked all those for coming out as he enjoys showcasing the gentler arts of the Society. Her Excellency also stated that AEthelmearc is like a Rose, where the fighters are the Thorns, but the Artisans are the Bloom – Beautiful!

    Their excellencies then wished to see the Pent Category winners to present them with their scrolls.

    Third Place in the Pentathlon was awarded to Lady Meabh ni Cleirigh. Scroll by Master Dagonell Collingwood.

    Lady Cristina inghean Ghriogair was awarded Second Place in the Pentathlon. Scroll by Lord Rhys Penbras ap Dafydd.

    Both of these scrolls were taken to be delivered by THL Hrolf a Fjarfelli.

    Ice Dragon, held on April 14, AS 52 (2018) in Loving Memory of THL Wolfgang Starke

    Being the court report of their Excellencies, Magnus and Miriel, Baron and Baroness of the Rhydderich Hael, held at the Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon on April 14, AS 52 (2018 CE) as reported by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova, Ice Dragon Pursuivant, with the assistance of THL Zosia Kowalewsak, Hael Stone Pursuivant, and Lady Siobhan Readnait.

    Their Excellencies thanked all those that attended the event and asked that they give a thought to the Barony and those that we had lost recently.

    Catalina was then called before them. Her Excellency spoke of how Catalina came to the Barony with great enthusiasm and has helped with Pennsic camp set up and eagerly taken to Siege Weaponry and Heavy Combat.     Their Excellencies then asked that the Order of the Dragons Combatant come into court. His Excellency noticed the Order was smaller than he thought it should be. Lord Tadhg Mag Uidhir was then invited into court. His Excellency spoke of how Tadhg currently serves as Baronial Heavy Weapons Champion, is always one of the first in armor at practice and one of the last ones out of it and it was only right and fitting that he be added to this august order.     Mistress Juliana Rosalia Dolce da Siena was then asked to come before the court. His Excellency spoke of how sometimes there are those long standing members of the Barony that everyone thinks has been recognized for their skills and he was shocked to learn that Mistress Juliana was one such person. Her skills in scroll illumination and teaching and running the Baronial Scribal Guild were too important to go unrecognized. The Order of the Golden Bee was then called forth and asked to welcome her into their ranks. Scroll by Baron Caleb Reynolds.

    Not satisfied, Their Excellencies asked the Order to bide a moment and called before them Baroness Ekaterina Volkova. His Excellency once again commented that he had been surprised to learn that she had not been a member of the Order before this and said that this needed to be remedied immediately as he doubted that the majority of those attending court did not have a scroll from her on their walls.     Their Excellencies then called for the Marshals for the day’s Marshal activities. Mistress Arianna of Wynthrope, Youth Combat Marshal for the day, first thanked those marshals that assisted her with the tourney. Four youth fighters participated in a round robin style tournament. Fritz was declared the overall winner and was given first choice of duct tape as his prize. Mistress Arianna then said that two participants were voted the most chivalrous and asked that Adrian and Quint come forth and pick their prizes of duct tape.

    Don Behrend von Elmendorf, Fencing Marshal for the day, first thanks all who assisted him, most especially the Mistresses of the List and announced that 42 fencers participated in a bear pit style tournament. In the end, Don Jacob Martinson was announced the winner. He was presented with a large bar of chocolate and a scroll by Lady Curia Epicurius.

    Lord Chebe then spoke of the Heavy Weapons tournament for the day. He first asked that Mistress Ysabeau Tierclin assist him with recognizing the artist side of the tournament. She announced that the overall winner of the artistic portion was Master Kieran MacRae. His Highness Sven was declared to have drawn the best Nature Drawing. The Most Fun Drawing was produced by Lord Laegair. Sir Beatrix Krieger provided the Most Geometric Drawing. The best rendition of Trogdor was by Lord Cormac. And special consideration was given to baron Richard Larmer for his Best Period Winged-Inappropriate Drawing. Lord Chebe then announced that Duke Sir Maynard von dem Steine was the overall winner of the combat portion of the tournament. He was awarded a sword and mace with a scroll by Fearghus mac Eoin.

    Lady Ysabeau de Comport then came into court and thanked Lord Chebe for all his work stepping in as marshal and helping wherever needed and gave him a token for embodying the spirit of Master Giuseppe and THL Wolfgang.

    Their Excellencies then spoke of the amazing artistic showing that was displayed in the Arts and Sciences competition.

    THL Ian Campbell of Glen Mor was named Monarchs’ Choice for his entry of a Leather Pouch. Scroll by Baroness Ekaterina Volkova.

    THL Elska a Fjarfelli was named Highnesses’ Choice for her entry of a Viking Apron. Scroll by THL Eleanore Godwin.

    The Baron and Baroness selected THL Ishiyama Gentarou and his Men’s Japanese Clothing as Their choice. Scroll by Caleb Reynolds.

    Baroness Ekaterina Volkova was then called into court. Her Excellency spoke of the long work that Ekaterina has done serving the Barony as Persuivant, but, word has come that her services are need elsewhere. Her Excellency Ekaterina was then released from her office with the blessings of the Barony. However, this left a position open. THL Zofia Kowalewska was called forth and invested with the regalia and title of Ice Dragon Persuivant.

    Court of Their Excellencies was then suspended while the final score results of the Pentathlon was tabulated.

    Later in the evening court was reopened and the following announcements were made:

    • Lady Thalia Papillon was selected as winner of the Special Prize category of the Arts and Sciences competition.
    • Mistress Elska a Fjarfelli was named winner of the 5:1.
    • Hanna was named Youth 2 winner for her Illuminated Scrolls.
    • Simon a Fjarfelli was named Youth 1 winner.
    • Third Place in the Pentathlon was awarded to Lady Meadbh ni Clerigh. Scroll by Master Dagonell Collingwood.
    • Lady Cristina inghean Ghriogair was awarded Second Place in the Pentathlon. Scroll by Lord Rhys Daffydd ap Penbras.

    It was then announced that THL Hrolf a Fjarfelli was the Overall winner of the Ice Dragon Arts and Sciences Pentathlon. Scroll by Mistress Sthurrim Caithness.

    It was announced that individual category winners would be posted in the Pent room and all participants should report there to pick up their score sheets and prizes.
